A scent of Japanese tea
By co-founder Marie Frøhlich
I just came back from Japan, a trip well balanced between work and relaxing time visiting friends on the country side. There are so many things I love about Japan and one of them is without a doubt the tea culture. It just fascinates me how integrated tea is in Japanese everyday life.
You have the traditional tea ceremony, but on a more down to earth level, I like that it’s common to serve your guest a cup of tea as the first thing, to welcome the person to your home - of course paired with a cute snack. And at restaurants tea is served before you even get the menu. Effortless and not a big deal, it’s just how it is.
On a cloudy afternoon I found this gem. A hojicha cafe, shop and roastery in Fukui where I had the tasting menu of four delicious high quality hojicha teas.
As you probably know the most well known Japanese teas abroad is sencha and matcha, but I would recommend you to try hojicha. It’s a soothing and delicate roasted green tea with an earthy aroma - it’s my favourite one. And it is suitable as a tea before and/or after dinner as it has a clean and refreshing aftertaste.
For me personally I associate the hojicha tea with our Repair Face Oil. It is a fragrance free face oil, with no added essential oils, but the scent from the organic natural oils reminds me of the earthy aroma of hojicha. By using the face oil as part of my everyday routine, I get a daily sensory reminder of Japan - and I love it.
